Trojan Asphalt Flat Roofing Specialists

Trojan Asphalt is a Brighton and Hove based family run flat roofing company. The company has over 50 years of experience in the flat roofing business and specialises in mastic asphalt flat roofing and built up felt roofing systems. It covers Sussex, London and the South East of England.

The proprietor is Richard Mears, who started his mastic asphalt apprenticeship in 1964 at the age of 16. He worked for Briggs Amasco from 1966 and started his own mastic asphalt roofing business in 1977. He was joined by his two sons Daniel and Thomas in the early 1990s. 2014 marked Richard's 50th year in the flat roofing industry. Trojan Asphalt is City & Guilds qualified and fully insured with £2,000,000 public liability. All work is guaranteed, with a minimum of 15 years and certain materials holding a 20 year manufacturers guarantee.

Services include mastic asphalt roofing, tanking, flooring and paving; built up felt roofing with high performance torch-on membranes and traditional 'pour and roll' method; a full flat roof repair service; promenade tiling for asphalt walkways, balconies, roof gardens and terraces; supply and installation of associated lead work such as cover flashings and lead outlets; and a full roofing insulation service on all asphalt and built up felt roofing systems.

Flat roofing projects across Brighton form the backdrop to feedback on this firm, with customers highlighting both the standard of the finished surface and the conduct of the team. Several reviewers describe replacement and repair work covering garages, balconies, porches and a garage conversion, along with stripping old coverings, laying high performance felt, sorting lead flashing and weather-sealing a skylight that had leaked previously. Punctuality recurs as a strength: quotations were provided on the day of enquiry, jobs were booked promptly and labour began when agreed, with some projects finished within a morning or by the following lunchtime.

The durability of the completed roof is widely admired, including one property that remained dry through severe storm conditions. Richard, Tom and Dan are named often and described as friendly, professional and genuinely helpful, while clear communication by phone or email, progress updates and photographs are valued. Fair, competitive pricing and work kept within budget are mentioned regularly, as are tidiness and efficiency on site. Asphalt detailing and surrounding finish receive careful attention throughout.
