Col the Sweep

Col the Sweep is a family business based in Crossgates, covering Leeds, Harrogate, Wakefield, York and surrounding areas. The business is Guild-certified and fully insured. Col trained with The Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps and became a fully qualified chimney sweep, having previously spent most of his life in engineering, serving his time as a gear cutter and working on military vehicles.

Greg completed the same Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps training and became a fully qualified chimney sweep; he worked as a Printer for 15 years on large scale industrial printing presses and then qualified as a Manufacturing Engineer. Col ran the business for 7 years before retiring. The business provides chimney sweeping, flue cleaning, and fireplace maintenance using traditional and modern techniques with state of the art equipment. A certificate is provided on completion of the job.

Col the Sweep is a Leeds-based chimney sweeping service whose customers repeatedly praise Greg for thorough, professional work. Reviewers describe him as knowledgeable and friendly, with several noting that he explains the tasks being carried out and offers straightforward advice, such as where to position a carbon monoxide detector or how to improve the efficiency of a fire or log burner.

Tidiness is a recurring theme: drop cloths are laid down, a high-powered vacuum is used, and the property is left free of dust and soot once the sweeping is complete. The service covers chimney sweeping and stove servicing, including short-notice call-outs when a fire is not working correctly, and certificates of service are issued on completion, which customers describe as useful for insurance purposes. Communication is frequently mentioned, with booking arranged easily and customers kept informed throughout.

Several long-standing clients have returned annually for a number of years and note the reliability and consistency of the work across repeat visits, while one commercial customer uses the service for a coffee roaster. The quality of the result and the careful handling of the home are points that come up often, and the advice given on maintaining older chimneys is singled out by more than one reviewer as particularly helpful.
